Property tax to be deducted from wages

Will a property tax “come into effect” given the mass opposition to the household and septic tank charge in Ireland? The Irish tax revolt has been discussed across the world, and this attack on wages will anger  workers. There should be no tax on a family home.

The new property tax is to be deducted directly from the wages of PAYE employees, according to reports this morning's Sunday Business Post.
It is understood Revenue Commissioners will have the power to take the money directly from source, while self-employed workers will be required to declare the tax in their annual assessment.

The move is designed to ensure a much higher level of collection of the controversial €100 household charge, which 42% of homeowners have yet to pay.
It is expected a new property tax will come into effect next year.

  1. Particularly good comments after the article. Reference to Noonan and Hogan been greeted by silence by fellow Fine Gael members.Their fans are usually more vocal when the visit locals towns and cities.

Totally agree. Hogan and noonans speeches on their ideals and plans were met with silence. I totally believe that rabbitte stated they are out of their depth. Having a probable €1000 added to my tax bill will push my family over the edge. The time is now to physically remove these traitors from the office they have denigrated. They have sealed their place in Irish history as traitors to the flag!"

Wont be long until the strikes start me thinks.

Any attempt by government to deduct the household tax or the new property tax at source from PAYE workers is “unworkable as long as people continue to refuse to register”
